Question

When you publish a workbook on Tableau Public, Tableau Server, or Tableau Cloud, the default setting includes the toolbar. This article describes how you can control the toolbar in embedded views.

Environment

  • Tableau Public
  • Tableau Server
  • Tableau Cloud
  • Embedded Views

Answer

The toolbar allows people to interact with your view. It also lets them export the view as a static image, crosstab, PDF, or as data.

Tableau Public

When you share a view, you can specify whether to remove the following options from the tool bar.

Editing the Toolbar Settings

  1. Sign in to your Tableau Public account, and click My Profile.
  2. Select a workbook and click Edit Details.
  3. Under Toolbar Settings, uncheck the desired options:
    • Show view controls Undo, Redo, Revert
    • Show Author Profile link
    • Allow workbook and its data to be downloaded by others.
More information about the above options can be reviewed in the Video #19 Publishing and Embedding Vizzes (4:01)

Note: It is not possible to remove the entire toolbar from Tableau Public.

Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud

You can disable the toolbar on Tableau Server and Tableau Cloud through URL parameters. To do this, simply add the following URL parameter at the end of the URL: ?:embed=yes&:toolbar=no.

Using "?:toolbar=no" can be used for views that are not embed.
