Unable to Open Microsoft Analysis Services OLAP CUBE Workbook Vizqlserver Process is Crashing

Issue

After an upgrade to 2022.1, the Microsoft Analysis Service workbooks could cause the vizqlserver process to crash when using version 15 or 16 of the MSAS driver.

When opening a workbook in Tableau Server published from Tableau Desktop we have the error message:

"An unexpected error occurred on the server. If you continue to receive this error please contact your Tableau Server Administrator.
Would you like to reset the view?"

Environment

Tableau Server 2022.1
Microsoft Analysis Services (MSAS) with the V15 and V16 driver

Resolution

Use Tableau Server version 2021.1 with the version 15 or 16 of the MSAS driver.

Cause

This behavior is currently being investigated under ID 1431834.

Additional Information

Workaround description:

Stop Tableau Server.
Go to C:\ProgramData\Tableau\Tableau Server\data\tabsvc\services\vizqlserver_0.20223.22.1108.0821\bin (if Tableau Server is installed in the default folder) then rename the file:
- jemalloc.dll to jemalloc_backup.dll
Start Tableau Server.
