Bypassing the Prompt to Enter the Site URI When Logging in to Tableau Cloud When a Member of Multiple Sites

Published: 09 Jan 2022
Last Modified Date: 13 Jul 2023

Issue

When attempting to login to Tableau Cloud using a user account which is a member of multiple sites, a prompt for the site URI is displayed with the following message:

Use Site URI
Enter your site URI to continue. You can find your site URI in the site URL for your Tableau site.

Environment

Tableau Cloud 2021.4 and newer

Resolution

Option 1:

Bookmark the relevant sites/URLs to be brought directly to those sites and authenticate appropriately.

Option 2:
Click the “Remember Me” checkbox in your browser upon signing into the site you want to log into by default - that will set your username and site id into the browser’s cookie.

Option 3:
Use Identity Provider initiated Login, when relevant, if you use a SAML single sign on Provider with your Tableau Cloud site. This would involve clicking the Tableau Cloud “application” within your Identity Provider’s application list.

Option 4:
Enter in your site URI after entering your email into the email field. Your site URI appears in the URL of your site. For example, if my site name was “Company’s Site” it could appear in the url as:

https://us-east-1.online.tableau.com/#/site/companyssite/

Option 5:
Click the “Forgot Site?” link and go through an email validation flow to gain access to the list of sites associated with your username.

Cause

Tableau Cloud will no longer expose site lists to unauthenticated users and requires the site URI be entered.

Additional Information

Note:
  • At this time the Site URI field when logging in is case sensitive. If you are having trouble signing in with the site URI, please ensure that it is capitalized as it was when registering the site.
  • Any scripting/automation utilizing the APIs or CLI tools will not be affected.
