Error "Unable to connect to Tableau Server ... Internet communication error" When Connecting to Published Data Source

Issue

When connecting to a data source published to Tableau Server, the following error might occur:

Unable to connect to Tableau Server
Cannot connect to Tableau Server. Please check the server name and port and try again.
Internet communication error: Couldn't connect to server (<server name>)

When you try to connect to the same Tableau Server data source from a different computer, you are able to connect successfully.

Network Firewall

Resolution

Work with your IT team to change the firewall rules to grant your computer access to the Tableau Server.

Cause

A firewall or directional rule is preventing your computer from connecting to the Tableau Server.
