Underlying Data from Secondary Data Source Not Displayed or Consistent with Blended Data

Issue

After selecting the view underlying data icon, only rows from the primary data source are displayed.

Additionally, when viewing the underlying data of a workbook using blended data, the underlying data might be inconsistent with the blended data.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Blended data

Resolution

Option 1

Create a new Worksheet and build a Crosstab view that shows the underling data, then use a Dashboard and Dashboard action to navigate the view. For more information, see Dashboards and Actions

Option 2

Use of the Cross Database Join functionality. More information about this feature can be found in this Product Help guide: Improve performance for cross-database joins.

Cause

This behavior is expected when using a blended view. The feature "View Full Data" sends a query to only the primary data source on a given worksheet that occurs separate from the blending operation.

Therefore, the ability to see data from a secondary data source via "View Data" is not built into the product.
