Environment

Answer
Option 1: Reconnect to the data source in the workbook
- Navigate to the My Data Repository folder.
- Click and drag the data source into Tableau Desktop.
Option 2: Search for the data source
- Search your computer or server for
*.tds
. - Click and drag the data source into Tableau Desktop.
- Go to Data > Data Source > Add to Saved Data Sources.
Option 3: Download the data source from Tableau Server and make a local copy
- In Tableau Desktop, go to Server > Log On....
- Enter your credentials and click OK.
- Go to Data > Connect to Data.
- Click on the published data source.
- Go to Data > <data source> > Create Local Copy....
Option 4: Restore from backup
Contact your internal IT team for assistance locating and restoring the file from a backup.Option 5: Recreate the data source
- Connect to underlying database.
- Create table joins as necessary.
- Go to Data > Data Source > Add to Saved Data Sources.
Additional Information
- The My Tableau Repository folder is typically located at C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Tableau Repository.
- Location of My Tableau Repository folder can be identified by going to File > Repository Location....
- Tableau Data Source files have a file extension of .tds.
