Error "Unknown Server Error TableauException: value" When Attempting to View a Dashboard

Issue

When attempting to view a dashboard, the following error might occur:
 
An unexpected error occurred. If you continue to receive this error please contact your Tableau Server Administrator.
Session ID: <session ID number>
TableauException: value
 
 

Environment

  • Tableau Server
  • Tableau Cloud

Resolution

Delete and recreate the custom view by following the steps below:
  • Append ?:original_view=yes to the end of the URL.  This should force the original view to load.  
  • Delete the custom view that is causing the issue, or remove it from default.  
  • Create a new custom view (if desired).

Cause

A custom view that is no longer valid is loading by default instead of the original view.
