Issue

When publishing a flow containing a Google BigQuery input with 'Sign In using Service Account (JSON) file' authentication, the following warning message appears in the Publish Flow to Tableau Online dialog box:

One or more connections prompt for authentication. To schedule the flow to run on your server, authentication credentials for the connections must be set up and saved to your account.

Environment

  • Tableau Prep Builder 2021.4.3
  • Tableau Online
  • Google BigQuery

Resolution

1. Click the 'Edit' link next to 'Connections'.

1 Publish Flow Edit Connections

2. If you have not done already done so, add your Google BigQuery service account credentials on your My Account Settings page in Tableau Online.
3. Click the drop-down menu under Authentication and select your Google BigQuery service account credentials.

2 Select credentials under Authentication

Cause

The Google BigQuery service account credentials to be used for the input have not been selected.

Additional Information

If an error occurs when running the published flow, try the following workaround:

1. Create the BigQuery data source with 'Sign In using Service Account (JSON) file' authentication in Tableau Desktop, and publish this data source to Tableau Online. You would need to embed your Google BigQuery service account credentials.

BQ Service Account Tableau Desktop
2. Use the published BigQuery data source as the input for your Tableau Prep flow.
