URL Double Encoding When Using Filters

Published: 18 May 2018
Last Modified Date: 24 May 2018

Issue

When using a scroll bar in Tableau Server on a filter that has 5000 or more items, you may notice that your Web Application Firewall (WAF) may see double-encoding as a security risk and block the double-encoded HTTP traffic between the client and Tableau Server.

Environment

Tableau Server

Resolution

As a Tableau Server Administrator, upgrade to Tableau Server 2018.1.1, 10.5.4, 10.4.7, 10.3.11 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Server in Tableau Help.

Cause

This behavior is related to issue (ID: 742880) which has been fixed in a recent release of Tableau Server.

Additional Information

Scrolling on filters in Tableau Server with 4999 items or less does not produce double encoded HTTP traffic.
