Unable to Update Parameters in Filter Formula After Replacing References

When replacing references on a parameter, the conditional formula within the field on the filters shelf does not automatically update from the old parameter to the new parameter. 


Tableau Desktop


Option 1 

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 10.0.2 or 9.3.8. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop.

Option 2: Manually edit the formula on the field within the filters shelf

  1. Right click 'Date' in the filters shelf > Edit Filter...
  2. Select the 'Condition' tab
  3. Type '[Start Date Replacement]' 
  4. Select OK to apply the changes 

Option 3: Create a calculated field

  1. Select Analysis > Create Calculated Field...
  2. Name the calculation '!Parameter Update' 
  3. Copy and paste the following formula: [Start Date]
  4. Upon replacing references, '[Start Date]' will alter to '[Start Date Replacement]'


This behavior is related to a known defect (ID: 536634) that has been fixed in the recent releases of Tableau Desktop.
