When using nested SPLIT() on arrays with an Amazon EMR (Amazon Elastic MapReduce) Hive data source, large queries are created and they take a very long time to process.

  • Amazon Elastic MapReduce

Using the explode() function in the Hive as a saved view or in a custom SQL statement will create a new row for each value in the array. This eliminates the need to use the SPLIT() function at all.
