Unable to Load Ask Data Page After Publishing a Data Source from Tableau Desktop to Tableau Server

Issue

After publishing data source from Tableau Desktop to Tableau Server, the Ask Data page loading fails because Tableau Desktop not redirecting to HTTPS after the data source is published.

Environment

  • Tableau Server 2019.1 or later
  • Load Balancer / Reverse Proxy 

Resolution

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 2019.3.1, 2019.2.5 or later.

Or as a workaround, work with your Server Admin or your IT team to configure the Load Balancer to listen on both 80 and 443, and automatically redirect all http(port 80) traffic to https (port 443).

Cause

Tableau Desktop is not redirecting to correct HTTPS protocol after data source publishing. This is related to a known issue and corrected in the more recent version of Tableau Desktop.
