Unable to launch Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep Builder due to MSVCP140_1.dll missing after Windows Update

Issue

When trying to run Tableau Desktop after Windows update, then the following error occurs

"This application has failed to start because Msvcp140_1.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

When trying to run Tableau Prep Builder, then the following error occurs

"Tableau Prep Builder stopped running because an underlying process stopped unexpectedly. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

Resolution

Option 1
Reinstall Tableau Desktop or Tableau Prep Builder.

Option 2
Install "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 - 2022 Redistributable"

Option 3

Perform Repair "Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 - 2022 Redistributable"

Cause

DLLs (Dynamic-Link Libraries) are shared libraries in Microsoft Windows, implemented by Microsoft Corporation. DLL files are just as important as files with an EXE extension, and DLL archives are simply impossible to implement without tools with .exe extension
