Environment
- Tableau Desktop 2019.2
- Tableau Server 2019.2
- Tableau Online
Resolution
- If the workbook contains one map with this issue, edit the workbook to zoom in/out until the missing background layer appears.
- If the layer is missing on many maps that use the same custom Mapbox map, sign into Mapbox Studio and adjust the zoom levels for that background layer.
Cause
Tableau 2019.2 and later uses vector maps and supports continuous zooming. In previous versions of Tableau that used raster maps, tiles and zoom levels were rounded at quarter intervals. These zoom levels determine when certain background layers display on a map. When a map is upgraded from a raster to a vector map, background layers that used to display at certain zoom levels may disappear from the upgraded map, since zooming is more precise and no longer rounded.
Additional Information
There are also six demographic data layers that are no longer present in version 2019.2, for more information see Demographic Data Layers Missing after Upgrade in the Tableau Knowledge Base.Thank you for providing your feedback on the effectiveness of the article.
