Unable to Connect to IBM DB2 from Tableau Desktop for Mac

Last Modified Date: 19 Dec 2019

When using Tableau Desktop for Mac, the ability to connect to IBM DB2 is not available.

  • Tableau Desktop
  • OS X

Use one of the following workarounds.

Option 1

  1. Connect to IBM DB2 from Tableau Desktop on Windows. The Tableau Desktop license allows a single user to install Tableau Desktop on two computers, such as a Mac and a PC, or a Mac and a virtual machine running Windows. The same license key can be used for both Windows and OS X.
  2. In Tableau Desktop on Windows, create an extract of the data. For more information, see Extracting Data.
  3. Open Tableau Desktop on a Mac, and connect to the extract.

Option 2

If Tableau Server or Tableau Online is available, data extracts can be published from Tableau Desktop on Windows to Tableau Server or Tableau Online, and then accessed from Tableau Desktop on the Mac. Tableau Server and Tableau Online can also automatically keep your data current by using scheduled refreshes. For more information, see  Extract Refresh Schedules, and Keep Data Fresh.

The ability to connect to IBM DB2 on Tableau Desktop for Mac is not currently supported.
