Unable to Connect to Amazon Athena Though Java is Installed

Issue

Unable to Connect to Amazon Athena. The following error displayed:

"No details available."
"Bad Connection: Tableau could not connect to the data source."

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Windows
  • Amazon Athena

Resolution

Uninstall Java and install the latest Java 64-bit version. Follow this link for Windows Offline (64-bit).

Cause

Java has been installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java" when downloading from https://java.com/en/download, though it is supposed to be in "C:\Program Files\Java".
