Resolution
Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 10.3.11, 10.4.7, 10.5.4, 2018.1.1 or a newer version. For more information, see Upgrade Tableau Desktop.If it is not possible to upgrade, try one of the following workarounds:
Option 1: Run Tableau Desktop as Administrator
Right-click the start icon for Tableau Desktop and select Run as administrator.
Option 2: Adjust Shortcut Properties to open Tableau Desktop through the command prompt
- Right click Tableau Desktop shortcut
- Select 'Properties'
- Copy and paste the following:
- Target: %ComSpec% /C "cd "C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau 10.4\bin\"&&tableau.exe"
- Start in: C:\WINDOWS\system32
- The icon will be changed to a Command Prompt icon, instead of Tableau.
- A Command Prompt window will appear and remain while Tableau is open.
Option 3: Adjust Shortcut Properties to disable high DPI scaling
- Right click Tableau Desktop shortcut.
- Select 'Properties'
- At the end of the Target field, add the text
-DOverride=EnableHighDPIScaling:off
Option 4: Choose Open with... when opening a Tableau workbook
- Right-click a Tableau workbook shortcut and select Open with…
- In the "How do you want to open this file?" dialog, select Tableau and click OK.
Cause
This behavior is related to a known issue with ID 703234, which has been corrected in more recent versions.Additional Information
To always run Tableau Desktop with administrator privileges, please follow the steps below:- Right-click on the Tableau Desktop icon and select Properties.
- Select the Compatibility tab, then check the box next to "Run this program as an adminstrator".
- Click OK.
