"TSM services returned status 100" when initialize-tsm performed with "--activate-service" and the forward proxy environment.

Issue

Upon installing Tableau Server on Linux where a forward proxy is used, the process fails with the error below:

Operation failed.
An error occurred during installation.
ATR Service is not available.
ERROR: TSM services returned status 100

the error occurs when initialize-tsm is performed with "--activate-service" option.

Environment

Tableau Server 2021.4 on Linux
Forward proxy server is used

Resolution

Workaround 1

Install Tableau Server 2021.3.x instead and then upgrade to 2021.4.x if necessary

Workaround 2

Avoid using ATR. Install Tableau Server without using "--activation-service" option.

Cause

This issue is still under investigation in known issue 1367328
