The Error "No License Set For Source Server. No License Set For Destination Server" Occurs While Migrating Sites With Content Migration Tool

Issue

While trying to migrate content between sites with the Content Migration Tool, the process fails with error:

"No License set for source server. No license set for destination server".

Tableau Server is confirmed licensed and has the Server Management Add-on activated.

Tableau Content Migration Tool 2019.3
Tableau Server 2019.3.2
Windows Server 2019

Resolution

There are 2 possible workarounds.

Option 1:
Upgrade Content Migration tool to version 2020.1.

Option 2:
Add the users being used to perform the migration to the Default site on Tableau Server.

Cause

The check that is done to ensure the users performing the migration are licensed users only checked their membership of the Tableau Server default site. If they were not members of that site but existed in other sites, the license check failed and the Content Migration tool would return the error message. Changes were made to perform the license check on the Tableau Server instance itself, not on any individual site.
