After an OS reboot, Tableau Server is unlicensed. Troubleshooting steps show the following:
  • Running tsm licenses list shows No licenses activated, or only the trial license.
  • Running serveractutil view shows that they have fully trusted activations.

Tableau Server versions affected are:
  • 2019.4.0
  • 2019.3.1
  • 2019.2.5
  • 2019.1.9
  • 2018.3.12
  • 2018.2.15
  • 2018.1.18
  • 10.5.21
  • Linux Environments
  • Flexnet 11.16.2

Resolution

Reset processes

Option 1
  1. Log into Tableau Sever machine as a local administrator.
  2. Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.
  3. Type the following commands:
    • tsm stop
    • lmreread
    • tsm start
Option 2

Upgrade to Tableau Server 2019.1.13 or later or 2020.1 or later.

Cause

The issue seems to be related to a timing issue between Tableau licensing services.

Additional Information

Ensure Tableau Server Licensing Manager has started. Users may consider changing from Automatic start to Automatic (Delayed) start, as this is most likely causing the server's inability to start in a timely fashion.
