Tableau Server Does Not Recover From Full Disk Space Usage

When a Tableau Server host runs out of disk space, Tableau Server may experience one of the following issues, which may occur even after disk space is freed:
  1. Zookeeper (Coordination Service) does not recover.
  2. TSM commands return errors like "An error has occurred. See '<path to tsm log>tsm.log' for more information." or "Could not connect to TSM Controller at '<server url>:8850'."
  3. tsm stop or tsm start failures, with Tableau Server processes (such as gateway, vizportal, vizql, cacheserver, cluster controller, search and browse, backgrounder, data server, hyper, file store, and the repository) either in "error" or "unavailable" state when "tsm status -v" is run.

  • Tableau Server
  • Windows: Tableau Server v2018.2, v2018.3, v2019.1
  • Linux: Tableau Server v2019.1 and earlier.

Option 1
Free up disk space, if this has not already been done, and restart the server machine.
Option 2
Upgrade to Tableau Server 2019.2 or later.
