Issue

When using Tableau Desktop or Server 10.5 or later versions and Symantec Endpoint Protection, Tableau's hyperd.exe process quits unexpectedly. This may manifest in the following ways:
  1. When performing a query to the Data Engine, you may be notified that the query could not be completed.
or
  1. You may be notified that the connection to the data source was lost and asked if you would like to reconnect it.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Tableau Server
  • Symantec Endpoint Protection
  • .hyperd.exe process

Resolution

Option 1

Update Symantec Endpoint Protection definitions to latest version.

Option 2

Exclude all Tableau Desktop processes, including hyperd.exe, from Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Cause

Symantec Endpoint Protection's "sysfer.dll" is injected into the hyperd.exe process, causing it to crash.
