When attempting to connect to Tableau Server from within Tableau Prep, the following error may occur:

Can't connect to Tableau Server.
The required SSL certificate might be missing or doesn't match the Tableau Server certificate for "<SERVER NAME>". Contact your System Administrator.

If the same connection is tested in Tableau Desktop, no error will be seen.

  • Tableau Prep 2018.2.2
  • Windows 10

As a workaround, add the full Tableau Server address to the exceptions list under Proxy Settings:
  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Open Internet Options
  3. Go to the Connections tab
  4. Click the Proxy Server > Advanced
  5. Add the full Tableau Server address to the Exceptions box (do not use wildcard notations)
