Tableau Prep 2022.4 Error "Something went wrong" error occurs when deleting input after loading Tableau hyper file.

Issue

Tableau Prep Builder 2022.4 terminates unexpectedly when deleting a data source connection from the connection pane after loading a hyper file with the error:

"Something went wrong and the application needs to restart. Click Save As to save your work before restarting. Unsaved changes will be lost when the application restarts."


However, the saved file cannot open normally.

Environment

  • Tableau Prep Builder 2022.4

Resolution

Option 1

Upgrade to Tableau Prep Builder 2023.1 or newer.

Option 2

Delete all the input steps that use the hyper file before deleting a data source connection from the connection pane.

Cause

This is a known issue that is fixed in more recent version of Tableau Prep Builder.
