Tableau Desktop Quits Unexpectedly On Launch

When attempting to launch Tableau Desktop after performing an automated installation and activation on a Mac that has been configured for Tableau Desktop License Reporting, the Tableau icon bounces on the Dock for a couple minutes before quitting unexpectedly, returning an error message:
Tableau quit unexpectedly

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Mac OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan

Remove the "com.tableau.ReportingServer.plist" file from the Library/Preferences directory, then reboot the machine and launch Tableau Desktop.

Tableau Desktop is unable to connect to the Tableau Server to which it has been configured to send a License Report, resulting in an eventual timeout and Tableau Desktop quitting unexpectedly.

Additional Information

Once the "com.tableau.ReportingServer.plist" file has been removed and Tableau Desktop is opening as expected, Tableau Desktop License Reporting can be reconfigured by connecting Tableau Desktop to the Tableau Server(s) for which the License Reporting feature is to be configured, re-adding the "com.tableau.ReportingServer.plist" file to the Library/Preferences directory, then rebooting the machine.
