Tableau Desktop Quits Unexpectedly Connecting to Tableau Online Data

Issue

When connecting to Tableau Online data source, Tableau Desktop quits unexpectedly.

Information similar to the following can be found in log.txt:

2020-12-30T15:25:49.568: 3617-c900 MSG
    Attempting to reestablish login for https://[InstanceName].tableau.com with refresh token

2020-12-30T15:25:49.570: 3617-c905 MSG
    Execution of PAC script at "http://wpad/wpad.dat" failed: The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1003.)

 

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • macOS 

Resolution

Disable auto proxy discovery.

Instruction of Disabling proxy settings on macOS
  1. Click the Apple icon then select the System Preference option.
  2. Select Network.
  3. From the left pane, select the network service you wish to disable the proxy settings on, then click the Advanced button.
  4. Select the Proxies tab then uncheck all protocols under Select a protocol to configure then click OK once done. Done!

Cause

This behavior can be caused by proxy auto-configuration failing.
