Tableau Desktop keeps retrying to Connect When Using Authenticated Proxy Server

After upgrade to desktop 2019.3/2019.4, Tableau Desktop keeps retrying to connect when using authenticated proxy server.

Upgrade to versions above Tableau Desktop 2020.1

Workaround 2

For Windows
Edit Tableau Desktop Desktop shortcut in order to disable the Discover Pane Web Engine when launching the application.
  1. Right-click on the Tableau Desktop 2019.3 Desktop shortcut
  2. Go to properties.
  3. On target, field box add the following suffix -DOverride=DiscoverPaneWebEngine:off

Windows Shortcut

For Mac
  1. Open the MacOS Terminal (Open the MacOS Spotlight - Search and type terminal)
  2. Type: cd /Applications
  3. Type: open -n ./Tableau\ Desktop\ --args -DOverride=DiscoverPaneWebEngine:off

Create an App with Apple Script Editor

Workaround 3

Add the following entries to the proxy exception list.
  1. Control Panel -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN Settings -> Advanced
  2. Add the following entries to the Exceptions

  1. Downgrade Tableau Desktop version to 2019.2
  2. Use a proxy server without authentication.



Proxy server authentication is not supported by Tableau Desktop before 2020.1.
