Issue

Tableau Desktop 2019.1 fails to launch on a Mac computer from before 2012.

Resolution

Option 1

This issue (ID 878179) was solved on 26th March in the newest Tableau Desktop release 2019.1.2 . Option 2

As a workaround, use Tableau Desktop version 2018.3.  Click here for downloads of current and previous versions of Tableau Desktop: Tableau Desktop Downloads and Release Notes.  For more information on current releases, see Upgrade Tableau Desktop and Desktop Upgrade.

Cause

This behavior is related to a known issue with ID 878179 which has been fixed in a newer version. 

Additional Information

This issues generally occurs with computers that do not support Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX). This typically applies to computers which were manufactured before 2012.
