Tableau Cloud Prep Conductor Flow Failing with Error "Output step error message"

Issue

When running a flow in Tableau Cloud, it will intermittently fail with error

"Output step error message: [NodeExecutionError] - Something went wrong and we were unable to process output step"

and one of the following error details:
Communication with the Tableau Protocol Server was lost
or
Unable to materialize temporary table

Environment

  • Tableau Cloud 2020.1.4
  • Tableau Prep Conductor

Resolution

The failure itself appears intermittently so run the flow again and it may work again.

Cause

This is a known issue that is fixed in the recent version of Tableau Cloud.
