Tableau Bridge Refresh Fails with Error: "There was a problem and the data engine could not start properly"

When My Tableau Repository is located on a shared network drive, Tableau Bridge refreshes in service mode may fail with error:
There was problem and the data engine could not start properly.
Unable to create extract.


  • Tableau Online
  • Tableau Bridge prior to 2018.2.0
  • My Tableau Repository on a network location other than the drive where Tableau Bridge is installed


Move the My Tableau Repository to the same drive where Tableau Bridge is installed. See Tableau File Types and Folders for instructions on changing the repository location.


Tableau Bridge is designed to use a repository on the local drive where Tableau Desktop is installed. If the repository is moved to a location on a secondary or networked drive, refreshes may fail.
