Some Workbooks Using a Published Extract are Slower Than Using a Embedded Extract

Workbooks with a large query result-size due to design (large crosstabs, large domain quick filers or excessive filters) have slower performance when using a published extract versus a embedded extract.

  • Tableau Server 10.5+
  • Hyper Extracts

Implement design best practices using incremental drill down to details, rather than trying to show everything then filter.  Please see the 'Designing Efficient Workbooks' whitepaper and the Performance Tips section of our Online Help document for more details.

When a published extract is used, Hyper sends the results to Dataserver which then transforms the tuples from the compact Hyper form to the less compact Tableau Tuple form.
