Dashboard Elements Shift or Scrollbars Appear After Tableau 10.4 Upgrade

After upgrading from Tableau 10.3 or earlier to Tableau 10.4 or newer, some dashboard elements have slightly changed alignment (3 - 5 pixel shifts) or scroll bars display on dashboards where they were not previously present.
Additionally, you notice that ##### characters appear instead of data in your dashboard because the vertical scroll bar has changed after the upgrade.
While most dashboards are not affected, these changes may cause the layout of some dashboards to shift significantly and appear broken.

  • Tableau Desktop 10.4
  • Tableau Reader 10.4
  • Tableau Server 10.4
  • Tableau Online
  • Tableau Public

This behavior is expected.

In Tableau Desktop, you can edit the dashboard to adjust its appearance as needed.

This behavior is By Design, that is expected due to the changes which enabled the new Dashboard Spacing feature, which included removal of the mandatory 4 pixel space built into the sides of dashboard item, plus clean up and correction of irregularities in legacy code.

Additional Information

The Dashboard Spacing feature introduced in Tableau 10.4 allows precise control of white space on dashboards through padding and borders on all dashboard objects and floating containers.
