Smaller Dashboards Have Empty Space When Tabs Are Used

When publishing a workbook with multiple dashboards of different sizes, and Show Sheets as Tabs is enabled, the resulting page on Tableau Server is always as big as the biggest dashboard in the workbook. This might result in empty space in smaller dashboards.

  • Tableau Server
  • Tableau Online

Option 1

To avoid empty space, make all dashboards in the workbook approximately the same size.

Option 2

Do not select Show Sheets as Tabs when publishing a workbook.

This behavior is by design. On Tableau Server, the page displaying the workbook does not reload when tabs are changed. As such it should always be big enough to accommodate any dashboard in a workbook that a user might select.

When Show Sheets as Tabs is enabled, Dashboard with auto layout size will be set to the largest size of a non-auto Dashboard.
