Tableau Desktop Slow to Load When Repository is on Network Drive

Issue

An extended wait time may occur while Tableau Desktop loads.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • My Tableau Respository on network drive or synchronized location

Resolution

Change the location of the My Tableau Repository folder by following the steps below:
  1. Locate the My Tableau Repository file folder.
  2. Copy and paste the folder to a local location.
  3. Open Tableau Desktop.
  4. Select File > Repository  Location.
  5. Browse and select the new My Tableau Repository folder.
  6. Exit and restart Tableau Desktop.

Cause

My Tableau Repository folder located on a networked drive, or a drive that is being synchronized over a network can cause slow loading.

Additional Information

While a network drive may load at a normal speed, Tableau Desktop can still experience delays while opening if the folder My Tableau Repository is located on a network drive.
