Site Administrator Unable To Create New Groups After Installing Or Upgrading To Tableau Server 2020.2

After installing or upgrading to Tableau Server 2020.2, site administrators are unable to create a new group due to the new group button missing.


  • Tableau Server 2020.2.0 and newer


As a workaround, the site settings for Managing Users can be modified by the Server Administrator to allow Site Administrators to create groups.
1. Log in to Tableau Server as the Server Administrator
2. Navigate to Settings > General
3. Under the Managing Users section, select "Server and site administrators"
4. Click Save to save the changes

Note: These settings are specific to each individual site. If your Tableau Server environment has multiple sites, it will be necessary to make these changes on each site.


This behavior is related to a known issue with ID 1154288 that is currently under investigation.
