Issue

When publishing a custom SQL data source with folders created, those folders disappear in Tableau Server or when connecting directly to that published data source in Tableau Desktop.

Environment

  • Tableau Server
  • Tableau Desktop
  • Published Data sources
  • Custom SQL

Resolution

Try one of the following workarounds:
  1. In web-edit mode, select the "Group by Folder" option from the drop-down menu at the top-right corner of the data pane, or from the context menu of a dimension/measure.Then, the "Folders" menu should be enabled, and any existing folders should (re)appear. For general info on Group Fields in Folders. Please see our product help Organize and Customize Fields in the Data Pane in Tableau Help.
  2. Create an extract since this issue occurs with live connected Custom SQL data source.. For additional information about this topic, see Extract your Data in Tableau Help.
