Project Leader Permissions Changed after 10.5.1 Upgrade

Issue

A user, designated as Project Leader with an Interactor site role, no longer has adequate permissions to perform previous administrative jobs after upgrading Tableau Server from 10.3 to 10.5.

Environment

  • Tableau Server 10.5.x

Resolution

Grant the Publisher site role to the Project Leader to enable the extended abilities of using tabcmd to refresh extracts, create subscriptions to a view, and grant permissions on content to other users.

Cause

In Tableau Server 10.5, a change was made to ensure that Project Leaders would not be granted (and could not themselves grant to others) more privileges than their license type (site role) in 10.5 and above.

Additional Information

License type (site role) trumps the Project Leader designation.

In Tableau Server 10.3.x, a user with the Interactor site role, who was designated as a Project Leader, could be granted permissions to perform the following actions:
  1. Use tabcmd to refresh an extract.
  2. Create subscriptions on a view for another user.
  3. Grant permissions on content to another user.
In Tableau Server 10.5.x, a Project Leader with an Interactor site role cannot perform the above actions without being granted the Publisher site role.
