After upgrading from Tableau Server 2018.3 or earlier to Tableau Server 2019.1 or newer, some project images no longer appear.

Move the link for the project image to the last entry in the About field for the project. Ensure the image link uses the proper syntax of !!

Additionally, you can use the Identify Projects With Broken Images workbook attached to this article to review the projects on your Tableau Server and quickly identify which project descriptions need to be adjusted. In order to use this workbook, you will need to do the following:
  1. Make sure access to Tableau Server's postgres repository is enabled. Information on how to do this can be found in the Collect Data with the Tableau Server Repository product help guide.
  2. After opening the workbook, change the connection information to connect to your Tableau Server postgres repository

In Tableau Server 2019.1, project image display was adjusted to show a larger, high resolution icon in a dedicated space. This change also moved the description text for projects to its own dedicated space below the project image. Due to the new layout, project image links will now need to be the last entry in the About field in order to display correctly.

Additional Information

When adding an image to a project card, the image is stretched (or shrunk) to fit, maintaining the original aspect ratio. The project card then only displays a 300x184 image measured from the top left corner.

The optimal image size for project images in Tableau Online and Tableau Server 2019.1 and newer is 300x184.
