Missing Projects in the Publishing Pop-up Window When Attempting to Publish a Workbook or a Data Source

Issue

When publishing a workbook or a data source in Tableau Server, some project are missing in the publishing pop-up window of Tableau Desktop.

You also notice that the missing projects are replaced by blank fields in the drop down menu selection.
 

Environment

Tableau Server 10.2.2

Resolution

Option 1

Upgrade to Tableau Server 10.4.3 or a newer version. Click here for downloads of current and previous versions of Tableau Server: Tableau Server Downloads and Release Notes. For more information on current releases, see Upgrade Tableau Server and Server Upgrade.

Option 2

Work with the Project Leader (or a Server/Site Administrator or someone with a Publisher License) to perform the steps below:
  1. Go to Tableau Server > Projects
  2. Select the Project that is the last visible in the Publication window in Tableau Desktop and click Details
  3. In the About section, confirm a <vertical tab> character is present in the text description
  4. Click Edit Description and remove this specific character
  5. Click Save once done

Cause

This issue (ID: 686931) was fixed in Tableau Server 10.4.3.
