Issue

When activating Tableau Desktop, the following error may occur:
Checkout failed: lc_checkout return information -157
(LM_REPAIR_NEEDED)

Environment

Tableau Desktop

Resolution

If the virtual desktop has been setup proceed to Part II, otherwise complete Part l only.

Part I:

To troubleshoot this issue, carry out the steps in Resolve FlexNet licensing errors when activating or opening Tableau Desktop
Note: For steps that use Command Prompt, run Command Prompt as administrator.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, create a support case and provide the following information:
  1. License data for non-virtual desktop. For more information, see Providing License Data to Tableau Support.
  2. Tableau Desktop logs. For more information, see Sending Tableau Desktop Log Files.

Part II - Virtual Desktop ATR flag set

This error will occur on one of the end user VMs, when the master image has been activated. If this is true, the VMs will need to be re-created according to the following steps:
  1. Roll back the master image to before Tableau Desktop was installed.
  2. Update the master image to re-install Tableau Desktop with the command line options for virtual desktop (see Configure Virtual Desktop Support) and do not activate a key.
  3. Create the new end-user's VMs.
The end user VM should not be activated when created and delivered. The activation will occur by the end user accessing the VM or by a script activating the VM on the end user's behalf.

If it is not possible to roll back the master image to before Tableau Desktop was installed, please contact Support and provide the following information:
  1. From the master image, please obtain the license data; include both Virtual Desktop and non-Virtual Desktop files. For more information, see Providing License Data to Tableau Support.
  2. From the master image, the Tableau Desktop logs. For more information, see Sending Tableau Desktop Log Files.
  3. From the end-user's VM, please provide the non-Virtual Desktop license data. For more information, see Providing License Data to Tableau Support.
This information is needed because it is not possible to deactivate a product key when the Tableau Virtual Desktop option has been set.

Cause

A unique machine identifier, such as boot disk serial number, MAC Address, or Virtual Machine ID, was changed after the trial was started, or after Tableau Desktop was activated.
Using the Virtual Desktop option, the master image cannot be activated prior to vm or clone creation.
