Live Connections to SAP HANA Perform Slowly When Using SSO or Impersonation

Published: 28 May 2019
Last Modified Date: 16 Mar 2020

Issue

When SSO or impersonation is in use, Live connections to SAP HANA are still sending metadata queries, even when metadata queries have been suppressed by Enabling TDC capabilities like the following:

CAP_HANA_SHOW_HIDDEN_COLUMNS
CAP_ODBC_METADATA_SUPPRESS_SQLPRIMARYKEYS_API
CAP_ODBC_METADATA_SUPPRESS_SQLFORIEGNKEYS_API

Environment

  • Tableau Server
  • Windows Server 2012
  • SAP HANA

Resolution

Step 1

If you are using Tableau Server 2019.1 or earlier, work with your Tableau Server Administrator to upgrade to Tableau Server 2019.2 or a newer version. See Tableau Server Downloads and Release Notes for downloads of current and previous versions of Tableau Server.
For more information on current releases, see Upgrade Tableau Server and Server Upgrade.

Step 2

In Tableau Server 2019.2 or newer, work with your Tableau Server Administrator to configure the server to Enable shared metadata cache using the following commands:
  • tsm configuration set -k enable_metadatacache -v shared --force-keys
  • tsm pending-changes apply
