Licensing Error: 'TSXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX' has been used to activate or refresh 'TSXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX'

Licensing Error while adding activating a perpetual legacy key on Tableau Server that is activated with the ATR service:

"Server Error: 'TSXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX' has been activated or used to refresh 'TSXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX' ''.

  • Tableau Server 2021+
  • Windows Server

No action needed.  The message is just to inform the Administrator that the key used in the activation will not be the key showing in TSM.

When activating a perpetual key and using Server ATR, a message can display when using a current line item key instead of the original key.  This is just an informational message.

Additional Information

Perpetual product keys, legacy keys with no expiration date, should never change in the Tableau Customer Portal.  Even after many years of additional maintenance, the original key can be activated on Tableau Server.

For various reasons, including offline activations, a different key can be used to activate the Tableau Server.  With Server ATR, even if the most current maintenance key is activated, the product will display the original line item key.  The message is to let the Server Administrator be warned that the key activated is not the key that will display.
