Installation Fails Due to Symantec Endpoint Quarantine

When installing Tableau Desktop or Tableau Server, Symantec Endpoint might block the installation and move the installation files to quarantine, with a notification similar to the following: 
Scan Type: Auto-Protect Scan 
Event: Security Risk Found! 
Security risk detected: WS.Reputation.1 
File: <filepath> 
Location: Quarantine 
Computer: <Computer Name> 
User: <User Name> 
Action taken: Quarantine Succeeded 
Date found: <Date> 


  • Tableau Desktop
  • Tableau Server
  • Symantec Endpoint


  • Work with your IT team to ensure that Symantec Endpoint is updated with the latest software updates and virus definitions.
  • If updating definitions does not resolve the issue, you can visit Symantec Software Whitelisting Request to report a false positive. 


Symantec Endpoint definitions are outdated, or giving a false positive although a virus is not actually present. 

Additional Information

  • The "reputation" risk indicates that the file is new and not recognized by Symantec. It is not an indication that actual malware has been detected. 
  • This issue is more likely to occur when a Tableau update has just been released. 
  • Tableau's code is digitally signed with a digital certificate as Symantec recommends.
