Importing RData File With NaN Value Shows All Rows With NaN

When using Tableau Desktop to import an RData file as a text file data source that contains a column with a 'NaN' value, then all rows in that column will become 'NaN'.

  • Tableau Desktop 10.3,10.4,10.5
  • Windows 7
  • R File

Option 1

Upgrade Tableau Desktop to 10.3.13, 10.4.9, 10.5.6, 2018.1.3 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop in Tableau Help.

Option 2

As an alternative workaround, try the following steps below:
  1. In the data preview pane, change the data type of the affected field to 'String'.
  2. Go to 'Sheet 1'
  3. Create a new calculated field and enter a formula similar to:
FLOAT([affected field])

This behavior is related to a known issue (ID: 736997) which has been fixed in a recent release of Tableau Desktop.
