Grayed out "Add a User" When SAML is Enabled

With Tableau Server set up with Local Authentatication, the Add User button is grayed out when SAML is enabled. 


  • Tableau Server 2019.2.0 through 2019.2.2, 2019.3.0
  • SAML Authentication enabled


Option 1

Upgrade to Tableau Server 2019.2.3 or 2019.3.1 or a newer version. Click here for downloads of current and previous versions of Tableau Server: Tableau Server Downloads and Release Notes. For more information on current releases, see Upgrade Tableau Server and Server Upgrade.

Option 2 

Disable the local authentication password policy. For more information, see Configure password settings (click the TSM CLI section) in Tableau Help.

Option 3

Import users via CSV. For more information, see Add users from a CSV file in Tableau Help.


This behavior is related to a known issue with ID 942866 which has been resolved in newer versions of Tableau Server.
