Google Sheets Data Generated from GOOGLEFINANCE() is NULL
Published: 16 Nov 2016 Last Modified Date: 20 Jul 2023
Issue
When connecting to a Google Sheet that uses the function GOOGLEFINANCE(), then those fields and any fields that reference those fields are NULL, aka blank, in Tableau Desktop.
Environment
Tableau Desktop
Google Sheets
Google Finance formulas
Resolution
Create a second Google Sheet that imports the Google Finance data using the IMPORTRANGE() function, and then connect to the second Google Sheet.
For more information about this Google function, please see IMPORTRANGE.
Cause
Tableau Desktop is not able to import these Google Finance tables directly via Google Sheet connector now. This behavior is due to a limitation of Google Sheets and is not specific to Tableau Desktop.
