Generic Error Messages Following Ask Data Lens Edits

Submitting edits for any Ask Data Lens result in errors such as:
  • Error: Failed to update lens name.
  • Encountered an error while trying to update Lends fields.


  • Tableau Server
  • Windows
  • Linux


Work with local networking and security team to identify at what level (e.g., web application firewall, network-switch, networking appliance, client machine, or Tableau Server machine) and due to what settings at that level the blockage of the Ask Data Lens updates is occurring and identify best resolution within the environment.


A PUT request from the browser where the update to the Ask Data lens is entered to Tableau Server is getting blocked by third-party scanning software or another security mechanism.
