Error "Your account or password is incorrect." Trying to Login to Tableau Cloud After Password Has Changed

Issue

When using TableauID to log in to Tableau Cloud, the following error message is displayed after the password was recently changed:

Your account or password is incorrect. Please try again or click Forgot password.

Environment

  • Tableau Cloud
  • TableauID

Resolution

Confirm you are using the correct credentials and clear your browser cache/cookies and perform the following:
  1. Go to www.tableau.com, select Sign In, and select Log in to tableau.com.
  2. Enter your username and password and confirm you are able to login successfully.
  3. Clear your web browsers cache and cookies. 
  4. Go to online.tableau.com and enter your credentials to sign in. 

Cause

The issue is caused by the web browser's stale cache/cookie automatically entering the old password during login.
