Issue

When uploading an offline activation file, the following error occurs:

We are unable to process your offline activation file. To continue with offline activation, email Tableau Technical Support and attach your offline activation file. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Environment

  • Tableau Server

Resolution

The issue is an empty 40 character alphanumeric value for <UniqueMachineNumber><Type>2.

In order to resolve this issue, regenerate the offline.tlq file.

Note that the initial .tlq file value omits the 40 character alphanumeric string (see below: ACTUAL).  When re-run a second time, the Type 2 line will include a 40 character alphanumeric string (see below: EXPECTED)

ACTUAL:

<UniqueMachineNumbers>
<UniqueMachineNumber><Type>1</Type><Value></Value></UniqueMachineNumber>
<UniqueMachineNumber><Type>2</Type><Value></Value></UniqueMachineNumber>
<UniqueMachineNumber><Type>4</Type><Value></Value></UniqueMachineNumber>
</UniqueMachineNumbers>

EXPECTED:
<UniqueMachineNumbers>
<UniqueMachineNumber><Type>1</Type><Value></Value></UniqueMachineNumber>
<UniqueMachineNumber><Type>2</Type><Value>XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX</Value></UniqueMachineNumber>
<UniqueMachineNumber><Type>4</Type><Value></Value></UniqueMachineNumber>
</UniqueMachineNumbers>

The following unique machine identifiers must remain the same:

  • UMN1 = Boot disk serial number
  • UMN2 = MAC Address
  • UMN3 = Virtual Machine ID (Only used if the machine is a VM)

Cause

The initial .tlq file was corrupted.
