Error "Unknown server error" When Running Prep Flow from Command Line Remotely

Published: 20 Sep 2021
Last Modified Date: 21 Sep 2021

Issue

When running a Prep flow from the command line on a remote computer (e.g. using OpenSSH or PowerShell), the following error may occur:

status 500 reading LoomDocValidationApi#validateLoomDoc(LoomDocValidationRequest,Map); content:
{
 "errorMessage" : "Unknown server error.",
 "errorId" : "loomFlowEditorResourceBundle-UnknownServiceError"
}

Environment

  • Tableau Prep Builder
  • Windows

Resolution

Use PsExec v2.2:
  1. Open a command prompt as administrator and change to directory where PsExec v2.2 is located.
  2. Run the psexec command with the following format:
psexec \\computername -h -u username -p password "[Folder path]\test.BAT"

Additional Information

"error code 0" means the command ran successfully. See PSExec issue - "CMD exited on (remote PC) with error code 0."

In this case, use PsExec v2.2 instead of v2.34 because of a defect, ID 1316771, in the latter version.
